The process of placing a dental crown typically involves the following steps:
- Consultation: A dentist will examine your mouth and take x-rays to determine the overall health of your teeth and gums. They will discuss with you the recommended treatment plan, and the options available for the crown material.
- Preparation: The dentist will prepare the tooth by removing any decay or damaged tissue. They will also shape the tooth to make room for the crown.
- Impression: The dentist will take an impression of the prepared tooth and the surrounding teeth to create a mold for the crown.
- Fabrication Of The Crown: The mold will be sent to a dental lab, where a skilled technician will use the mold to create the crown. The crown will be made of materials such as porcelain, ceramic, resin, gold alloy or base metal alloy.
- Fitting And Cementation: Once the crown is ready, the dentist will check the fit and color match, and make any necessary adjustments. The crown will then be permanently cemented to the tooth.
- Follow-Up: The patient will need to have regular follow-up appointments to monitor the crown and to ensure that the tooth remains healthy.
